Places to be

A not-so-random selection of some of our favourite places to see and be seen in around Leeds. Slightly out of the ordinary and out of the way, but all the more interesting for it, these unique bars, cafés, shops, nightspots and health club will help to keep mind, body and soul together.

The Corn Exchange
An eclectic collection of 35 of the funkiest shops in Leeds. Housed in a fantastic, and award-winning, historic building in Leeds' Exchange Quarter, The Corn Exchange is where to go for decidedly different fashion, food, drink, music and lifestyle accoutrements.

The Faversham
Tucked in behind Leeds Uni, The Fav is a fave with fans of good food and fab live music. This late licence pub & bar has a renowned world beer collection and is as well known for its great live gigs as for its big screen sports spectacles. New additions this year include comedy nights, a big pool room - and extensive renovations throughout.

Virgin Active
This massive health club in the Cardigan Fields development on Kirkstall Road has the facilities and space to let you do whatever you want to do. There's a fabulously kitted-out gym, work-out studios and 3 pools, plus a spa, sunbeds, café bar and lots more. The Wardrobe
One of Leeds' more sophisticated music venues. Located opposite the Leeds College of Music, it's appropriate that The Wardrobe should be so highly regarded for its scintillating live acts, hot DJs and celebrated club nights. With an intimate bar/restaurant upstairs, featuring regular funk, soul and hip hop sounds, while downstairs vibes to a regular jazz beat. The epitome of city cool.

Kadar's Café
Take a walk into Kadar's next to the Corn Exchange and you'll swear you just walked into a Middle Eastern souk. This traditional Moroccan style 'Shisha' café serves an outstanding variety of authentic Persian and Arabic dishes. But one of its main attractions are the 'narghile' or hookah pipes, offering a selection of traditional mixtures for relaxed smoking pleasure. Try 'mu'essel' with sweet treacle or honey, they even have a cappuccino flavoured one! An unforgettable experience.

The HiFi Club
The North's premier funk, soul, jazz and hip hop venue, The HiFi Club has been voted "Best Nightclub" at the Leeds Bar & Club Awards for the past 3 years in a row and "Best Live Music Venue" for 2 years. Open 7 nights a week for a diverse selection of live music and club nights, this is one of Leeds' coolest venues. Check out their happening Sunday evening session The Sunday Joint, free entry all day and night and open until 2am!
